Partners of the National Library of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi in 2009

With assignment of the "national" status in 2002 to the Library, became definition of mission, expansion of the main goals and functions of the international professional interaction and cooperation borrows a priority direction in activity of library and serves as one of means of performance of its functional duties. The responsibility of the National Library of Uzbekistan for realization of national and international programs has risen, there was a necessity of development of the concept of cooperation. The international cooperation and interaction until recently was conducted on a traditional basis is an acquisitions and book-exchange.  
   The National Library of Uzbekistan cooperates with embassies of Germany, the USA, China, Japan, Switzerland, Iran, Malaysia, Russia, Ukraine and also with international foundations and organizations, such as Goethe Institute, Information-Resource Center of the US Embassy, the British Council, branch of the World Bank, the Asian Bank of Development and others. In partnership with embassies, national libraries of foreign countries the library spends presentations, the illustrative book exhibitions and the open viewing of the literature. In consequence of the lead activities funds of library considerably replenish with the new literature transferred in gift. Meetings with representatives of embassies and funds yield good results, such as opening of the center of the foreign literature and reader’s club of the British literature.  
   New priorities and further development receive bilateral relations with national libraries, the national centers of the technical-scientific information of the different countries which promote basically to dialogue between cultures, allow to use more widely cooperative recourses, to create the new information recourses promoting rapprochement between the countries.
    Now are signed and in force seven Agreements on mutual cooperation and the partnership, 2 of which - Memorandum of cooperation between the National library of Islamic Republic of Iran and the National library of Uzbekistan named after A. Navoi signed on January, 5th, 2005 during the visit to Uzbekistan of the first vice-president of Islamic Republic of Iran Muhammad Rizo Arif in Samarkand, the Cooperation agreement between the National library of Uzbekistan and the National library of Warsaw signed on November, 3rd, 2004, the Report on cooperation with the Alexandria library, on April, 18th, 2007, the Report on cooperation with National library and central administrative board of archives of the Arabian Republic of Egypt, 2008 enable to develop new ways of cooperation with national libraries of the far abroad. Agreements on partnership and cooperation of the National library of Uzbekistan with the Russian state library, National Academic library of the Republic Kazakhstan, National library of the Kirghiz Republic, National library of Latvia, the Azerbaijan National library, National library of Ukraine named after Vernadsky, Join Stock comp. “National center of the technical-scientific information of Republic Kazakhstan” have allowed to assign already exiting mutual professional relations in terms of a book-exchange, joint research projects and organization of a uniform information center. Within the limits of the signed agreements will be hold an exchange of experts, the organization of joint seminars, research work etc. The National library of Uzbekistan is a member of Noncommercial partnership "Library Assembly of Eurasia" (on December, 8th 2005).
    The international library links of library are strengthened, the circle of partners in a book-exchange has extended is about 30 countries and more than 150 organizations. Experts of library take part on the international conferences, seminars and trainings abroad. The library is one of organizers of regular international conferences «The Internet and library-information resources in a science, education, culture and business» (Samarkand - 1999, Bukhara – 2002, Tashkent-Samarkand–2004, Khiva, Urgench – 2006, Fergana - 2008). Conferences have shown a solvency of library-information resources of republic, interest to them from outside the international community.
    The National Library annually develops the Approximate plan of joint activities of library and the national cultural centers in which such activities as an exhibition of books of the people of the Central Asia, literary and art evenings, an exhibition of an applied art, a hand-made article of readers are provided.
